Chocolate Roses by Joan Sowards (and a Contest!)

If you are considering reading Chocolate Roses, I feel I must warn you. The cover will give you an insane urge to open a box of chocolates every time you pick up the book. Look at it. Isn’t it just delicious? Yeah. But it’s a fun story, so rather than advising you to pass this one up and save yourself from gaining five pounds, I’ll instead tell you to read fast.

In all honesty, though, reading fast isn’t hard to do. The voice of the main character is fresh and fun and full of personality, and I found myself reading faster than I originally planned, just because I wanted to see what would happen next.

Also, there’s a Great Dane involved, and having been acquainted with a pup of this lovable breed in my youth, I have a soft spot for the K9 character otherwise known as Flo. Add that to my soft spot for chocolate, and you get an enjoyable story. I also liked the chapter headings out of the original Jane Eyre. This was a fun, easy-to-read parody.

The blurb:

She’s in love…

He’s out of reach…

Is there any hope?

Janie Rose Whitaker's world revolved around her chocolate shop until Roger Wentworth and his young daughter moved into the apartment across from Janie's. Anyone would think Roger fit the mold of the "perfect" guy, but soon Janie discovers secrets that could keep them apart forever. Though she resists getting involved in Roger's complicated life, they are drawn further into a bittersweet relationship.

You will laugh, cry, and crave chocolate as you read this LDS paraody of the classic novel Jane Eyre.

Sounds like a great read! I will definitely have to have a box of chocolates by my side while reading. And my favorite chocolate is milk, though I eat more dark chocolate, because it is healthy and guiltless. Right?

Dark chocolate covered Almonds is all I have eyes for. And what a great contest.

I prefer milk chocolate first and white chocolate second. Dark is okay, but not my favorite.

I have this book on my wish list and I can't wait to read it.

Thank you for the yummy review of Chocolate Roses! When we visited Chocolate' chocolate shop in Bisbee, AZ I learned that chocolates from different parts of the world had distinct flavors. My favorite came from West Africa.

I'd have to say it depends on my mood. At this very moment it's milk chocolate with peanuts. Ask me in another 5 minutes and it could me dark. Then again, I'm remembering making a white chocolate nativity as a kid that sounds pretty good right now too!

You guys are so creative. This is a fun idea. I adore dark chocolate and eat it on cracked wheat every morning! kbrebes@aol.com

I love all 3, it's hard to choose a favorite although, I might be partial to milk.. Having a box of chocolates sounds like a much better idea and then I can have all my favorites while I read this book.
@kbrebes - dark chocolate in cracked wheat every morning sounds like an EXCELLANT idea.

I love different chocolates for different moods. I would love to try the different chocolates from different places. Today is a happy dark chocolate day. I wonder if Joan ate chocolates as she wrote. haws65@msn.com
